Redline will host a  seminar this month focussed on the mental aspects that can determine the outcome of a confrontation. Here’s the the club had to say about it:

Join us for our next Blauer Tactical Systems S.P.E.A.R. Personal Defense Readiness training course on May 20th at 2pm.
This system is based on understanding and converting “Behaviorally Inspired & Genetically Wired” responses to violence.
We break down the emotional, psychological and bio-mechanical factors that often determine the outcome of a fight.
This course will include the study of human movement as it relates to violence, fear and aggression. It is not a martial arts style;
The S.P.E.A.R. (Spontaneous Protection Enabling Accelerated Response) System is based on analysis of genetic survival reflex that
has been turned into an effective combative science. Learn to “be your own bodyguard.” it could save your (or a loved one’s) life!
Where: Redline Fight Sports Gym
When: Sunday May 20th from 2:00 – 4:00pm.
Cost: $20 in advance or $25 at the door.
This course will be taught by Certified PDR Instructors under Tony Blauer’s S.P.E.A.R. System.

We got this email last night and thought we’d share it with you.

East Cost Martial Arts announced this week a seminar called “Tricks and Kicks” for martial artists between the ages of six and 16.

This is a seminar for three consecutive Saturdays. Sat May 5th,Sat May 12th, Sat May 19th. It runs from 10:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. all three days. The students will then perform for a cable tv show a few weeks later… This seminar is not the usual realistic self defense material we use in our martial arts classes everyday. It is instead, a chance for kids and teens to have fun with the showy material you see in movies and tournaments.

The school said that all are welcome to the class (attendees need not be current students of East Coast Martial Arts), and students will be separated by age and ability.

Total Performance Sports recently challenged a few of its members to flip tractor tires and lift Atlas Stones as part of one of its “Strongman Saturdays.”

“We focus on one or two different events each day, and once we teach them to you, we put you through them in contest conditions. It is a great workout and, as I said, a lot of fun. Who says lifting needs to be boring?”

The gym plans to host one $20 Strongman Saturday class per month and has a proposed schedule for now through December. The next class, held in May, will challenge participants to the “Conan’s Wheel” (where you lift a weight suspended on a bar and walk it in a circle) and the Viking Press (a variation of an overhead press).

So, if you’re looking to build strength—or just want to challenge yourself in a new way—these could be worth your time.
